Walled Garden, Haddo

The walled garden dates from the early 19th century and is roughly oval, running north-south. It forms part of the designed landscape of Haddo House, located west of the main house, within the former Forgue parish of the Gordon district. The garden walls are constructed of ashlar-coped random rubble, with brick lining. A dovecot is built into the wall to the south and is listed separately. Attached to the north side are a two-storey lean-to hothouse and potting shed, originally a five-bay structure with two doors at ground level. A doorway is located in the east gable at first floor level, although the forestair (external staircase) is no longer present. Four small ashlar flue ventilators are positioned in the walls, along with ashlar stacks and ventilators at the wallhead. There is no surviving woodwork. The garden was in poor condition in 1989 and 1993. Other features within the Haddo estate, including the Dovecot, Keithny Burn Bridge, and gate lodges, are listed separately.
