Houses, The Square, Fettercairn

These are two houses located on the north-west side of The Square in Fettercairn village. They were originally built in the late 18th or early 19th century as single-storey structures. Later, they were raised to two storeys. The houses are constructed from rubble stone with stone slate roofs. The south house features two first-floor windows inserted into the roof space, with swept dormerheads. The north house has an external forestair leading to the first-floor level. The windows are a mix of 8-pane and 12-pane sashes. Photographs from the 1890s indicate that the first-floor windows were identical in both houses at that time. The raising of the dormerheads on the south house occurred early in the 19th century. The houses are now converted into flats.
