Description
Mansewood is a house of 1844, designed by James Henderson, located in Woodhead. It is a two-storey and attic building with a three-window front, featuring a consoled block pediment doorpiece and a gable and arched stair window. A single-storey wing and offices extend to the rear. The exterior is harled with granite dressings and margins, retaining its original woodwork and showing no alterations.
Nearby, James Henderson also designed Woodhead Church (formerly Fyvie Free Church) in 1843-44, as recorded in minutes. The church's interior exhibits Gothic detailing, with an octagon wooden column carrying semi-elliptical arches that support the roof. The church is now disused. Contracts relating to Mansewood’s construction were advertised in the Aberdeen Journal in May 1844.
