Description

Oldwood Cottage, located within Fyvie Castle, was built for Belle Black, who later became Lady Gordon, and died in 1824. It is a two-storey, three-window house with a harled exterior and margins around the windows. The door has a hoodmould, and the first floor windows are similarly treated. A heavy crenellated parapet sits on a corbelled course, with crowstepped gables and tall, shafted chimneys. According to local accounts, the house may have been begun by General William Gordon before his marriage, though the building’s current form dates to a later period. The address is Oldwood Cottage, Fyvie Castle.
