Description
The Walled Garden at Fyvie Castle dates to around 1777. It comprises three compartments, with the western section roughly triangular in shape. The northern part is narrow, featuring a curved wall at its western end, while the southern section is larger and has a curved wall facing south. The garden is constructed of rubble, and it is defined by gatepiers topped with pineapple and ball finials. Within the garden stands a sundial featuring two Byzantine columns and a composition of grotesque figures depicting Italian soldiers and a kneeling figure, dating to the 19th century. The listing recognizes the group interest of the garden within the wider setting of Fyvie Castle. This means that the listing applies to both the interior and exterior of the garden, as appropriate for a walled garden of this type.
