Description
Kingswell Nursery School, located on Seafield Street in Banff, was built in 1889. It is a single-storey T-plan school constructed from dark local whinstone, featuring tooled and polished ashlar dressings and margins. The long arm of the T has a prominent gable at the center, which is adorned with a pair of large round-headed windows and flanked by lean-to porches. Each porch has a door with flanking lights and double leaf-plank doors that include decorative cast-iron hinges. Each return gable features a large tripartite window. The windows have multi-pane glazing with timber astragals and frames. The school has a slate roof with original small triangular vents and tall corniced end stacks.
The school is enclosed on three sides by high coped rubble walls. The lower walls facing the street have a central pair of widely spaced gatepiers, along with a second pair serving as a pedestrian entrance.
