Description
North Lodge, near Eden, was built around 1850 by Alexander Reid of Elgin. It is a single-storey and attic gate lodge with a distinctive L-shape. The exterior is mainly harled (roughcast plaster), with contrasting, finely finished granite around the windows and corners. A gabled porch sits within the angle of the L-shape. The south gable, facing the drive, has a slightly projecting window with a granite canopy above it. There are two small dormer windows inserted into the roof. The windows are modern, with a lattice-pane design.
The roof is slate-covered, featuring a decorative ridge with three tall, stone chimney stacks with cornices and rectangular bases. A granite finial tops the roof, and a weather vane, dating from around 1990, is also present. The roof edges have decorative coping and brackets. A flat-roofed extension has been added to the rear.
North Lodge is similar in design to South Lodge at Eden, which was advertised in the Aberdeen Journal in November 1850.
