Old Coastgaurd's House, 1 Lodging Brae, Portsoy

The Old Coastguard's House, located at 2 Lodging Brae in Portsoy, is a late 19th-century building that stands two stories tall and faces north, overlooking the sea. The structure is built of tooled rubble with tooled and polished ashlar dressings. It features an irregular seven-bay frontage that includes numbers 1, 2, and 3, with an advanced gable for number 4 at the western end.

Entries to numbers 1 and 2 are located at the rear, while number 3 has its entrance in the front re-entrant angle with the gable of number 4. The entry to number 4 is through a projecting, corniced single-storey porch that has a blocking course against the western return gable.

Number 2 has a modern enlarged window on the ground floor with plate glass glazing, while the other windows retain their original multi-pane glazing in timber sash and case styles. A porthole window is present in the gablehead. The building features corniced end and ridge stacks, plain apex finials, and a slate roof with dark pottery ridge tiles.
