Description

19 Correction Wynd in Aberdeen is a classical commercial building designed by James Matthews and Alexander Marshall Mackenzie in 1886. It is five stories tall with an attic and features a prominent full-height tripartite canted corner bay that includes a shop on the ground floor. The building has six bays facing St Nicholas Lane and three bays facing Correction Wynd. It is constructed from stugged granite ashlar with polished ashlar dressings, and includes continuous moulded cill courses at each floor, a projecting cornice at the fourth floor, and an eaves course. The canted tripartite window bay is made of polished ashlar and has a balustraded parapet at the top. The main elevations are flanked by full-height channelled rusticated pilasters.

The building is now connected to 98-106 Union Street by a later link that extends from the first floor to the top floor. The narrow northeast elevation has no openings and is made of coursed Aberdeen Bond rubble, while the rear (north) has an irregular arrangement of openings. The windows are plate glass timber sash and case, with non-traditional glazing on the ground floor shop. The mansard roof is covered with grey slate and features slightly projecting flat-roofed bipartite dormer windows on the east side.
