Albyn Cottage, 1 Albyn Place, Aberdeen

Albyn Cottage is an early 19th-century, two-storey and attic, three-bay traditional house located at 1 Albyn Place in Aberdeen, with late 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of coursed granite rubble with cherry-cocking, featuring long and short tooled dressings, long and short quoins, and an eaves course.

The south elevation is symmetrical, with a centrally located doorway on the ground floor that has a replacement panelled timber door and a fanlight above. There are windows in the flanking bays to the left and right, and the first floor has regular fenestration. The east elevation is gabled but obscured by a late 20th-century addition that adjoins 1 Albyn Place. The north elevation was not seen in 2000. The west elevation is also gabled and features a late 20th-century glass corridor that connects to 1-5 Albyn Place on the ground floor.

The windows are predominantly 18-pane replacement timber sash and case, originally 12-pane. The roof is covered with replacement purple-grey slate and has metal ridges. The gablehead stacks are coped and have circular and octagonal cans, with cast-iron and PVCu rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen in 2000. The property also includes gableted square-plan granite gatepiers on the south side along Albyn Lane, flanked by brick coped rubble walls, although the gateway has been infilled as of 2000.
