Description
Walker and Duncan, 1899. 2-storey, basement and attic, 4-bay double villa. Tooled pink granite ashlar, finely finished to margins. Rough-faced granite base course; eaves course.
SW (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: symmetrical; 4-bay comprising 2 2-bay mirrored villas, now subdivided into flats; segmental-arched doorways to centre 2 bays of ground floor reached by stone steps over basement, stop-chamfered reveals and moulded lintels with keystone motifs, pair of replacement panelled timber doors to each doorway, fanlight above; regular fenestration to 1st floor; skylights to attic floor. Curvilinear-gabled bays flanking to outer left and right; 4-light canted window through basement, ground and 1st floors of each, terminating in crenellated parapet forming balcony to attic floor, round-arched window to attic floor centred in gablehead, stone finial to apex of gable.
SE ELEVATION: gabled; windows to centre of ground, 1st and attic floors.
NE ELEVATION: near-symmetrical; 4-bay; ground floor not seen (2000); regular fenestration to 1st floor, bipartite windows to outer bays; triangular-canted dormers to centre 2 bays of attic floor with skylights above, bipartite rectangular dormers to outer left and right.
NW ELEVATION: gabled; windows to centre of ground, 1st and attic floors.
Predominantly 2-pane timber sash and case windows; PVCu windows to 1st floor of villa to right (13 Forest Road). Grey slate roof with terracotta ridge. Coped stone skews with blocked skewputts. Coped gablehead and ridge stacks with circular cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.
INTERIORS: not seen 2000.
GATEPIERS AND BOUNDARY WALLS: low coped granite boundary wall to SW surmounted by railings enclosing basement floor; scrolled stone gatepiers to left shared with 21 Forest Road, decoratively scrolled gatepier to right shared with 9 and 11 Forest Road (see separate listing); rubble walls to remainder.
