Description

The weir on the River Nith in Dumfries was built around 1705 by contractor Matthew Frew. It crosses the river obliquely near Devorgilla's bridge and features an opening to a mill lade on the west bank. There are fish gullets near each bank, with later ponds situated below the larger eastern gullet. The structure is constructed from large squared rubble blocks.
