Description

The building is a single-storey gabled hall, constructed between 1980 and 1999, and located a few metres south of the Rademan Unitarian meeting house, approximately 2 miles west of Crossgar. It incorporates the fabric of a small former schoolhouse built sometime between 1834 and 1858.

The hall bears little resemblance to the original schoolhouse, exhibiting modern window and door openings on all facades and very broad gables. The main entrance, located to the left of the northwest gable, features a large modern doorscreen with timber-sheeted doors and sidelights. To the right of the entrance are five windows of varying sizes. The short northeast and southwest facades also contain windows of varying sizes and a rear door to the southwest. The exterior is finished with a dry dash, with smooth render surrounds to openings and wall edges. The roof is slated and includes a small, bellcote-like ventilation turret at the centre of the ridge.

The original schoolhouse, marked as a 'National School' on an OS map from 1858, appears to have remained in use until the mid-20th century, after which it served as a hall for the neighbouring Unitarian (Non-subscribing Presbyterian) meeting house. The building was significantly extended in the 1990s. A 1978 survey described a simpler hall plan with two schoolrooms accessed through a gabled porch on the north side, a slated gabled roof with projecting eaves, rendered walls and gable chimneys, Georgian-glazed windows, and a sheeted door with a 'Rademon National School' plaque above it.
