Description

This is a small, one and a half storey gabled house dating to the c.1880s, possibly built as the residence for the master of the nearby former schoolhouse. It is located a few metres to the southwest of the Rademan Unitarian meeting house, approximately 2 miles west of Crossgar. The house complements the character and setting of the meeting house, which sits adjacent to a small stream and the wall of the meeting house. While the window frames and doors are now modern, reducing its architectural and historical interest, the house retains some original character.

The front gable faces southwest and is asymmetrical. A small, gabled porch is positioned to the right of the ground floor, with a modern panelled and glazed door to its northwest façade. Above this door is a semicircular arched window with a modern frame and a label moulding. The porch roof is slated and features a finial. To the left of the porch, on the main front gable, is a flat arch window with a modern frame and label moulding. A similar window is located on the first floor. The northwest façade mirrors this arrangement with two windows. The southeast façade has a small window with a modern frame on the upper floor. The rear gable has two modern windows on the first floor and a timber sheeted door to the ground floor, alongside an adjacent window with a modern frame. The entire façade is rendered. The gabled roof is slated and has small finials. A central rendered chimney stack is present, with visible cast iron rainwater goods. The house is now a private dwelling and is believed to have been constructed in the c.1880s.
