St Mary’s Parish Hall, Downshire Road, Newry, Co Down, BT34 1DX

St Mary’s Parish Hall was a two-story building dating from around 1850, though it may have been constructed between 1840 and 1859. Initially described in 1969 as a building with rendered walls and a slated hipped roof, its architectural style and detailing were noted to be of poor quality. A subsequent description in 1977 presented a more detailed picture, portraying a stucco house with a hipped slated roof featuring bracketed eaves. It had a Tudor-arched entrance and square-headed windows with Georgian-style glazing on the first floor, with decorative cornice hoods supported on console brackets above the window openings. The building was not shown on the 1838 Valuation map, but was recorded in the 1863 Valuation as Newry Orange Hall. It was demolished in the early 1990s to facilitate an extension to the Newry Courthouse. The site is now within the curtilage of the courthouse. The building stood within the Carneyhough townland and was located within a conservation area. It was delisted on December 3rd, 2004.
