Description
The site at 97 Tannaghmore Road, near Seaforde, Ballynahinch, represents the former location of a horse walk, likely constructed in the mid to later 19th century, between 1840 and 1859. The structure has been completely removed and no trace remains, now situated on the edge of a scrubby field. It was originally described in a 1980 survey as a "horse walk / mill set on a retained circular platform." Associated farm outbuildings, and the original farmhouse, have also been demolished.
The general area is marked on an Ordnance Survey map of 1834, though the horse walk itself is not depicted. Neither is it shown on the revised map of 1858, though outbuildings are indicated. A horse walk appears on the 1901 Ordnance Survey map. The horse walk was removed around 1990, along with most of the original outbuildings. The site possesses industrial archaeological interest.
