Description

24 Tannaghmore Road is a solidly proportioned two-storey three-bay vernacular farmhouse built around 1830, arranged on a symmetrical plan with most of its original features intact. The house is located on the south side of Tannaghmore Road and occupies a traditional farmyard setting, positioned prominently close to the road.

The rectangular building faces north and is constructed with roughcast walling and cement rendered corner banding and plinth. The pitched roof is covered in artificial slate with brick chimneys to the gable and party wall. Windows throughout are 1/1 sliding sashes with smooth rendered architraves and painted masonry cills; those on the first floor are diminished in height. The principal north elevation is symmetrical, with three openings to each floor arranged about a central entrance containing a replacement glazed timber door.

The east gable is blank. The rear elevation's central and right bays project slightly. The ground floor has a 1/1 sliding sash window to either side and a diminished 2/2 window with segmental-headed top panel to the left of centre. The first floor has a 1/1 sash to the centre, with remaining windows being replacement timber side-opening casements. The west gable is abutted by an attached outbuilding, slightly lower in height, which contains a secondary entrance to the house. This outbuilding is detailed to match the house and features tongue-and-groove sheeted openings located under the eaves and stable doors to the ground floor, with an attached stone trough positioned between openings.

The house is bounded to the road by a roughcast boundary wall and accessed by a pair of mild steel gates set on cement rendered gate piers with roughcast panels and diamond caps. The building appears on the 1832 first edition Ordnance Survey map without outbuildings to the east. One original outbuilding shown on this map still exists, now extended to the south. According to Griffiths Valuation, the occupant was William Kenny, leasing land from Reverend William O'Neill, with the house, offices and land valued at £31.0.0. The property occupies a farmyard setting with single-storey outbuildings to the side and modern barns and farmhouse to the rear.
