Webb Clock Tower, Neillsbrook Road, Randalstown, Antrim, Co Antrim

A two-stage, square-plan masonry tower built in 1952 in the Italianate style. The eastern face features a rusticated semi-circular arched doorway with a rectangular flush door, and similar blind recesses on the other three faces. The exterior walls are finished with roughcast render, with smooth rendered quoins and voussoirs. Above a cornice sits a roughcast rendered belfry storey with rectangular louvred openings and a shallow-pitch pyramidal roof covered in red pantiled tiles, surmounted by an iron weathervane. Modern PVC guttering and downpipes are visible, returning into the belfry storey. The clock face has been removed.

The tower was built as a memorial to William Hubert Webb, an active member and Director/Chairman of the Old Bleach Linen Company from 1888 until his death in 1950. It was constructed on behalf of the company’s employees and opened on 10 September 1952.

The tower stands on a low podium of two concrete steps within a small grassed area, situated beside Neillsbrook Road. Housing is opposite, and sports and leisure facilities lie behind.
