Modern looking two storey house built around the fabric of a former single storey vernacular dwelling of probable pre 1834 origin. The property is set on the W side of Newcastle Road, c.2 miles N of the small village of Seaforde. The original house was described in the first survey of March 1978 as a ‘Single storey cottage. Roof slated, gable ends, chimneys rendered. Walls rough cast, painted white. NE front has 3 drop hung [sash] windows, Georgian panes. Sheeted entrance door between first and second windows. Condition poorish. Front about 50ft’. The present house bears absolutely no resemblance to its predecessor, being two storey and having large modern windows, modern doors etc., etc. The thickness of the ground floor walls suggests some of the fabric of the older building has been retained, but other than this nothing recognisable of the building remains.
