201 Newcastle Road, Seaforde, Naghan, Downpatrick, Co Down, BT30 8NU

This is a small, single-storey house located on the west side of Newcastle Road, at the southern end of the village of Seaforde, County Down. While largely modernised around 1980, it may have originally been part of a long terrace of similar dwellings built before 1834.

The asymmetrical front façade faces east. To the right is a modern, panelled and glazed door, and to the left are two roughly square, modern windows. The north and south gables are blank. A modern, flat-roofed extension is located at the rear to the right, with a timber sheeted door and a modern window to its left on the main house's rear facade. The exterior is finished with a dry-dash render, featuring smooth cement recessed bases and surrounds to the front openings. The gabled roof is covered with fibre cement slates, with a slight overhang and plain barges. A single, central chimney stack made of concrete bricks is present, and features shaped rainwater goods.

An Ordnance Survey map from 1834 shows a long terrace of buildings including this site. Valuation records from around 1836 indicate the terrace consisted of small, single-storey dwellings. While these buildings were still standing around 1860, later annotations to the valuation town plan show most of the terrace was demolished by the late 1800s, with this property being the exception. This suggests the current house may date back to before 1834, a possibility supported by deeds referring to former residents, including a John Steel, recorded in around 1860. The present owner's father acquired the house around 1900, and the property was completely renovated in the 1980s.
