Description

This is a small, vernacular house, likely built between 1800 and 1819, located up a lane on the east side of Edenmore Road, near Mayobridge, Newry, County Down. The house sits within the townland of Aughnagon and is currently in private ownership.

The house has a pitched roof covered with natural slate, featuring a slightly advanced eaves course and no rainwater goods. The walls are rendered random rubble stone. The front of the house faces west and includes a shallow windbreak on the right side of the left bay, with a lean-to roof of natural slate and walls matching the main block, containing a T&G sheeted door. To the left of the porch is a 6/3 exposed box sliding sash window with a roughly dressed stone sill. The right bay contains a similar central window, set slightly lower, which is currently boarded up. The north gable is partially abutted by the remains of a derelict outbuilding and is blank. The rear elevation is blank, while the south gable has a small window to the upper floor.

The house appears on an Ordnance Survey map of 1834 but was not included in the first Valuation of around 1835, suggesting it was valued at less than £5. It is likely to be the original building. The interior has been stripped of most of its timberwork, including a loft floor over the left bay. The building was noted as derelict in earlier records.
