House, Adjacent to 145 Ballagh Road, Newcastle, Co Down, BT33 0LA

This is a single-storey, three-bay timber-framed house situated adjacent to 145 Ballagh Road, Newcastle, County Down. Constructed between 1920 and 1939, it represents a rare survival of the Watertown settlement, a construction workers' settlement associated with the building of the Silent Valley reservoir. The building was reassembled on its current site in the mid-1930s following the dam's completion.

The house is clad in corrugated metal and has a gabled roof with a central brick chimney – a replacement for the original stovepipe, according to the owner – and metal rainwater goods. The facade faces south-east, with a glazed door providing access to the central room, and a single sliding sash window in each room. A kitchen, of similar construction, projects from the rear.

Historically, the former owner believed the building was originally a canteen at Watertown. Currently, it is a private house, though it has been recorded as derelict. Due to its historical significance, there is hope that the Water Executive will relocate it to the Silent Valley for exhibition purposes, as the building is shortly to be demolished to allow for a replacement dwelling.
