Kilwaughter Cemetery, Deerpark Road, Kilwaughter, Larne, Co Antrim

Kilwaughter Cemetery is a Victorian-era cemetery dating from approximately 1880 to 1899, situated in open countryside alongside Deerpark Road, in the townland of Rory’s Glen, near Larne, County Antrim. It is enclosed by a boundary wall constructed of basalt rubble, with square gate piers and entrance gates of plain wrought iron facing west. The cemetery contains memorials from the late 19th and 20th centuries, but these are of no particular architectural or historical significance.

Attached to the south-west corner of the cemetery is a house, formerly a cemetery lodge, located at number 85 Deerpark Road. The house is single-storey and gabled, with a symmetrical three-bay entrance front facing south. It features a projecting central porch with a gabled roof. The walls are dry dashed with white limestone chippings, and the roof is covered with Bangor blue slates laid in regular courses, with ridges of red terracotta with a serrated profile. A rustic brick chimney is topped with modern pots, and the window and door openings are segmental headed with raised surrounds in black-painted cement render. A shield panel on the side gable, facing the main road, is the house’s most notable feature. A flat-roofed section extends to the rear, abutting the cemetery boundary wall.

The inscription plaque on the gable of the house reads "Built by David Nelson Esq. J.P. of Larne 1887."
