Concrete kiln at former Ballycarry Lime Works, Shore Road, Ballycarry, Larne, Co Antrim

This is a 20th-century concrete lime kiln, constructed between 1940 and 1959, representing a modern departure from the traditional masonry-built kilns of the 18th and 19th centuries. The kiln consists of an in-situ reinforced concrete base of a circular form, topped by a cylindrical steel flue and then a square brick flue with a concrete cap. It is located in the townland of Forthill. The site was initially a quarry, appearing on Ordnance Survey maps in 1902. It was named Ballycarry Lime Works by 1921, although the kiln itself was not depicted on maps until 1965. The structure stands within a grassy field, built into the hillside and partially screened by bushes. While not formally listed, it is considered to have industrial archaeological interest and is currently in use for rural industry, although previously recorded as derelict.
