Description
A pair of lime kilns, likely dating from between 1880 and 1899, stood at Clontivrin in Newtownbutler, Co Fermanagh. Initially, an Ordnance Survey map of 1834 showed only a quarry at this location. By 1857, the map depicted a quarry and three kilns, though these were not the structures later recorded. The kiln and associated quarry to the north were shown on the 1907 Ordnance Survey map. The kilns themselves were built of rubble and featured brick-lined flues, being integrated into the hillside. According to a survey card from 1982, they were approximately 15 feet high and 25 feet long. Unfortunately, the kilns were removed, likely as a result of road widening. They are considered to be of industrial archaeological interest.
