Carra Old Bridge, Carra, Newtownbutler, Co Fermanagh, BT92 6DW

The Carra Old Bridge, probably dating to between 1820 and 1839, carries a two-lane road over a small river via two small semicircular arches. It is constructed of roughly squared limestone rubble, randomly laid. Finely dressed voussoirs embellish the arches, alongside a dressed string course just above the arch crown. Curved sandstone copings define the parapets. A two-centre cutwater is present at arch spring level on both faces. The upstream face may have been rebuilt recently, and the arch soffits have been gunited. The bridge appeared on the Ordnance Survey 6" map of 1834 and was named Carra Old Bridge on subsequent editions of 1857 and 1907. While not formally listed, the bridge is considered to possess industrial archaeological interest.
