Cottage, Drumlone, Newtownbutler, Co. Fermanagh, BT92 8BU

The building at Drumlone is a cottage, now completely ruinous and overgrown. Constructed between 1820 and 1839, it initially functioned as a school, as shown on Ordnance Survey maps of 1834 and 1857, which label it "Drumlone Nat School." The 1835 Ordnance Survey Memoir indicates the school was established in 1833 and served 74 Protestants and 136 Catholics, with 112 boys and 98 girls enrolled. Supported by local contributions, the school was under consideration by the National Board.

By around 1890, the building ceased to be a school and reverted to use as a house, as evidenced by the Valuation revision book of that year and confirmed by its removal from the 1907 Ordnance Survey map. A 1982 survey described the building as a one-and-a-half storey, three-bay structure with an outbuilding. It had a half-hipped roof covered with natural slate and modern brick chimneys between each bay. Rainwater goods were made of half-round metal. The walls were wet-dashed with stepped quoins. Windows were originally 8/8 sliding sashes with horns and stone cills, with windows in the left and right bays, and a window to the left and a timber-sheeted door to the right of the central bay. The left gable was formerly abutted by a lower outbuilding with a pitched corrugated metal roof. An exposed upper section had a top-hung casement window to the right, providing light to the half-storey. The visible front wall remains, with remnants of a window in the right bay.
