Fountain outside 59 Main Street, SIxmilecross, Omagh, Co. Tyrone

This is a public water fountain located outside 59 Main Street in Sixmilecross, County Tyrone. Constructed sometime between 1920 and 1939, it forms part of a group of similar fountains in the village. The fountain is missing its top piece; consequently, it is less complete than other listed fountains in the area.

The fountain consists of a plain, shaped and fluted column topped with a lion’s mouth spout, which would have dispensed water. It originally featured an acorn finial, now lost. The column is inscribed with the makers’ name ‘Glenfield & Kennedy Ltd, Kilmarnock’. Water troughs were marked along the street on Ordnance Survey maps dating from 1906 and 1937, although pumps were not specifically identified. The fountain possesses characteristics of industrial archaeological interest.
