Kiln, Glenpark Road, Omagh, Co. Tyrone, BT79 7SU

This is a freestanding, disused kiln, constructed around 1840. It is terraced into a rear hillside and situated on the north side of Glenpark Road in the townland of Tirmurty, near Omagh, County Tyrone. The kiln is rectangular in plan and faces west. It is built of squared and tooled limestone with flush-cut quoins. The flat-headed, disused kiln roof is largely hidden by vegetation. The principal, west-facing elevation features a double-rebated, elliptical arch-headed recess at its centre, with a round-headed aperture at the base of the second regression, defined by cut voussoirs and a stone threshold. The sides of the recess are blank. The rear elevation abuts the hillside, with the exposed section obscured by foliage. The kiln first appeared on the Ordnance Survey map of 1854 and was identified as a limekiln on the 1936 edition. The building is currently recorded as derelict and retains its former use as a rural industrial structure.
