Description

Attached two-bay single-storey direct-entry vernacular dwelling, built c. 1820, and located to the south side of Liscabble Road, Gortin. Rectangular plan with small windbreak porch to east and continuous outshot at west. Two-storey exposed random rubble outbuilding to south. Roof is pitched asbestos sheeted; brick corbelled gable chimneystacks; half-round cast-iron rainwater goods; walls are whitewashed lime rendered rubble; windows (now largely removed) are 2/2 timber sliding sashes (no glass remaining). Principal elevation faces east and small windbreak porch off centre at left; window opening at each side. Left (south) gable is abutted by two-storey exposed random rubble outbuilding. Rear (west) elevation is abutted by continuous outshot with exposed random rubble walling; three small openings each with stone lintels. Right (north) gable contains single window at loft level. Two-storey outbuilding at south has pitched natural slate roof; blue/black clay ridge tiles; exposed random rubble walling with corbelled eaves course; east elevation has a scattered fenestration with much of the timber framing from windows and doors now removed. Left (south) gable contains single door opening at centre. Rear elevation contains single segmental-arched-headed opening with stone lintels. Setting:- Set within a remote rural setting in the mountainous area west of Gortin, with two further traditionally constructed outbuildings at north and east with corrugated metal roofs; accessed from lane at east.
