North Gate Lodge, Ballynagard House, Culmore Road, Londonderry, BT48 8NG

This is a small gate lodge, likely constructed between 1820 and 1839. It is located at Ballynagard House, on the Culmore Road in Londonderry. The building is of little architectural character. It is a single-story stone structure with a hipped roof covered in asbestos slates, featuring back returns with a lean-to tiled roof. The facade has a central door flanked by windows, with brick detailing around the openings. A smaller window is situated within the gable of the lean-to section. The west gable, without windows, is integrated into the footwalk along the Culmore Road, with a tall chimney stack rising from it. Wing walls extend from either side of the gable wall and continue southwards along the footwalk.

According to Griffiths Valuation of 1858, both the north and south lodges existed prior to the mid-19th century. J.A.K. Dean suggests this north lodge was built approximately 20 years earlier than the south lodge, around 1830. Although it does not appear on the first edition Ordnance Survey map, the architect Fitzgibbon Louch, who worked on the main house, may have influenced its design.

The building has since been partly demolished; the front wall has been breached, and the roof is collapsing.
