Dairy Building, Near Ballyarnett, 50 Beragh Hill Road, Londonderry, BT48 8LY

The building is a one-and-a-half-storey dairy building, likely dating from between 1880 and 1899, and situated near Ballyarnett, Londonderry. Its context and group value contribute to its historical and architectural importance. The building has a tiled roof and a gabled dormer in the east wall. There is a chimney in the north gable, and the south gable exhibits exposed timberwork. Sections of plaster have fallen away, revealing red brick quoins in the upper part of the wall, possibly indicating a later height increase when the main house was constructed around the 1890s. The building is believed to have been designed by R. Eccles Buchanan. The south side features two single doors, one leading to living quarters and the other to the dairy itself, along with a window adjacent to the house door. Double-light windows are present in the dormer and in the south gable. A single-storey shed is attached at a right angle to the dairy building. The dairy is situated to the north of the main house and set well back from the Beragh Hill Road, with a small courtyard in front, separated from the main house grounds by a wall. The building was probably converted from an earlier structure. The Ordnance Survey maps of 1830 show no building on this site, and it is likely the structure was raised to its present height during the c.1890s construction of the nearby main house.
