Gates & Pillars, Pellipar Estate, Ballyquin Road, Dungiven, Co Londonderry

The property comprises a pair of late Victorian wrought-iron gates set between a pair of square stone pillars dating to the late 18th century. The pillars, constructed of rubble stone, are situated at the edge of Ballyquin Road, marking where a secondary estate avenue crossed the road. The wrought-iron gates feature a dipping, curved top rail, a straight intermediate rail, and a bottom rail. A foundry mark, "A Brown, Derry," is present on the gates. It is believed that matching pillars and gates once existed on the opposite side of Ballyquin Road, associated with a former gate lodge that has since been demolished (reference HB02/07/002D). An avenue was present at the location and depicted on the Ordnance Survey map of 1832. A Brown, Derry, established a foundry in 1876 on Foyle Road, suggesting the gates are likely later than the stone pillars.
