Description
This is a neat, late Victorian, one-and-a-half-story teachers' house built in an Arts & Crafts style, likely dating from between 1880 and 1899. The house is detached and gabled, with a central chimney stack and an asbestos slate roof that is pedimented over the central entrance. It is roughcast rendered with a small conservatory attached to the rear.
The front elevation features a central, sheeted door flanked by rendered piers and sheltered by a lean-to open porch roof supported on gallows brackets. Segmental-headed single windows with PVC sliding sashes, 12 panes to each, are on either side of the entrance door. Above the entrance door, a smaller sliding sash window with 2 panes is positioned within the pediment; its sill is level with the gutter on each side. The pediment has plain timber barges and lacks overhang on either side. Double sliding sash windows with 12 panes are centrally placed in each gable, with two equally sized sliding sash windows with 12 panes at the first floor level in both gables. Plain wooden bargeboards and small slit ventilation openings are present in the roof space. The rear façade features a single 4-pane sliding sash window close to a small glass conservatory situated in the northwest corner, with a door providing access from the house. The roof is covered in asbestos slates, topped with a small, rendered chimney that has two pots.
The house was not marked on the Ordnance Survey map from 1856 to 1858 but appears on the Ordnance Survey map of 1905. It was originally constructed as a teacher's residence and sits close to the verge of Ballyquin Road, on the west side, immediately south of the former Drumneechy school building (referenced as HB02/07/008B). The small front garden is enclosed by a low rendered boundary wall with gate piers. A small, more recent garage is located to the south of the house.
