Lackagh Bridge, Ballykelly, Co Londonderry

The Lackagh Bridge, near Ballykelly in County Londonderry, is a stone bridge dating to around the late 18th century, likely constructed between 1800 and 1819. It is located on a quiet road crossing the Ballykelly Burn, which makes a right-angle turn to pass through a segmental tunnel formed within a rocky, shelving glen lined with trees and shrubs. The bridge is shown on the 1830 Ordnance Survey Map.

The structure has a charm enhanced by its setting within the glen, which adds visual interest to the road and highlights the burn itself. The bridge features straight parapet walls on either side, topped with hogsback coping approximately 800 to 900mm high. The stonework is of random rubble, with narrow schist voissoirs. The environs of the bridge are unfortunately impacted by past indiscriminate dumping and fill. While not formally listed, the bridge is noted to possess industrial archaeological interest.
