Telephone Kiosk, Tirmacoy Post Office, 3 Tirmacoy Road, Ballykelly, Co Londonderry, BT49 9JB

The building comprises a red K6 telephone kiosk and a two-storey post office shop, situated at 3 Tirmacoy Road, Ballykelly. The kiosk, designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, was in production between 1936 and 1968, with this example likely dating from 1940 to 1959. The buildings are shown on the 1848 Ordnance Survey Map. The kiosk features an embossed Crown and a white telephone sign, as well as a timber entrance door and cast iron construction. A red post box (EIIR) stands adjacent to the kiosk.

The post office is a rendered and painted building with a natural slate roof. The timber painted sign above the ground floor windows reads “S Townley, General Merchant”. The ground floor has a panelled, painted door and a large shop window, which is now covered by timber shutters. The first floor has three equally spaced two-pane sash windows, the central window being obscured by a painted timber board. The north-facing building has a storey and a half barn to the east, with a corrugated metal roof, and a two-storey, three-bay house to the west, which features a pebble dash finish, a natural slate roof, and two ground-floor canted bay windows projecting into a garden. The buildings have served the community for a long number of years and hold local historical interest.
