House near 20 Tirmacoy Road, Limavady, Co Londonderry, BT49 9PE

This is a two-storey, three-bay farmhouse, likely built between 1840 and 1859 and substantially renovated around the turn of the 20th century. The building is currently derelict, and while of local historical interest, is not listed due to the extent of necessary replacement work required for restoration.

The house is faced in sand cement render, with a natural slate roof and a chimney on each gable. The north-west facing front has tripartite sash windows arranged around a central, flat-roofed porch, and offers a view over Walworth Forest to Binevenagh. The render around the window architraves is finely executed; the gables are blank. A lean-to kitchen return projects from the south-east gable, adjoining a barn parallel to the house at the rear. The rear elevation’s windows appear to align with those on the front, although the frames and some mullions are missing, and render is falling off the sides.

Inside, the house features a large fireplace in the kitchen, along with other cast iron fireplaces of good quality. A notable feature is an unusual access to a first floor bedroom directly from the kitchen.

The farmyard is located at the end of a long lane from Tirmacoy Road and adjoins the farmyard of a more recent dwelling known as ‘The Moor’. To the west of the house stands a roofless ‘L’ shaped arrangement of former barns, including circular brick windows typical of the region.
