Description
This four-storey, three-bay building with an attic, known as Ellison’s (St Anne’s Buildings), was constructed in 1887 on Donegall Street, Belfast, for linen manufacturer John Douglas. It is built of red brick with red sandstone banding and detailing. The building has a twin-gabled design, with a central doorcase featuring swags of linen and roses pinned to the base of a canted oriel which corbels out at the first floor and rises to the parapet at the third floor. The twin gables are topped with a raised parapet and kneelers; the roof covering is not visible. The building features a replacement aluminium shop front and entrance door with external roller shutters concealed behind the signage. All upper-floor windows have been replaced. The first-floor windows are paired, segmental, and set within a segmental recess. The second-floor windows are paired, square-headed, and set within a square-headed recess. The third-floor and attic storey windows are segmental and paired. It is noted that the building does not possess significant architectural or historical interest, and is not listed.
