Fountain opposite RC Church, Loughans Road, Gilford, Co Down

The building is a water fountain located on Loughans Road, Gilford, County Down. Likely constructed between 1900 and 1919, it was designed with a plain, fluted column and a lion’s mouth spout. It is believed to be the work of Glenfield and Kennedy of Kilmarnock. The original pump mechanism has been removed, and the fountain itself was removed at an unspecified date, likely during the construction of new housing. Only the column and lion’s mouth spout now remain. The fountain was not depicted on the 1903-04 Ordnance Survey map, but did appear on the 1903/17 edition. The structure exhibits industrial archaeological interest.
