Description
This was a former nineteenth-century terrace of two-storey, two-bay brick houses situated on Castle Hill, Gilford. The houses originally featured 6/6 sliding sash windows within wide frames, and timber-sheeted doors set on plinth blocks. The buildings were roofed with slates and had brick chimneys. Entrance doorways were recessed within square-headed openings, each with a two-pane fanlight above. Three original doors with timber sheeting remain, while five are modern flush doors and one is a modern sheeted and glazed door. According to the First Survey card, the terrace was built after 1860, although some houses retained original glazing and fanlights prior to general modernization. Nine brick-built, two-storey houses stepped downhill formed the original terrace, with later additions at the rear. The terrace did not appear on Ordnance Survey maps of 1833 or 1860, but was depicted on maps of 1903-04. The terrace has now been demolished. The listing record is a partial survey only.
