Description

A former cast-iron lamp standard located at the traffic island at the junction of Castle St, Gilford. Now removed. The First Survey card records: ‘1909. The central feature of a traffic island at the junction of Castle Hill and Hill Street, is formed by a C.I. lamp standard. above a splayed and chamfered base a slim attached columns with foliated caps and scotia – profile plinths rise to a multi – foil with foliated and decorated cap, above this a standard rises to the lamp. The lamp is modern and completely alters the form of the monument. “erected by the inhabitats of Gilford in memory of Hugh Dunbar McMaster Esq. J.P. 1907” Date of visit: 29.9.70’
