Description

The former lamp standard at the junction of East Street and Church Street is a notable structure erected in 1851 and designed by Sir Charles Barry, who is known for restoring the nearby church. The lamp standard features a hexagonal base made of Portland stone, which is divided into four tiers. It has a central iron shaft that is surrounded by three twisted iron narrow shafts, each topped with a pointed design. These shafts are connected by ogee arches and decorative scroll-work at the top, which originally included a finial. The lamp itself is currently missing.
