3 The Square, Greyabbey, Newtownards, Co. Down, BT22 2QA

This is a mid-19th century, end-of-terrace house, now a shop, located on the north-west side of Main Street, Greyabbey. It is one of a short terrace of three similar properties built between 1834 and 1860. The building has a modern rear extension and an altered interior.

The principal facade, facing Main Street, is two stories high and has a six-over-six pane Georgian sash window on the ground floor, with a smaller six-over-three pane window directly above. Both windows have simple surrounds. Timber shop signboards are positioned to the left of the windows. The gable end, facing a small pedestrian lane, combines with a single-story, flat-roofed extension added to the rear of the building. A modern, partly glazed door is set into the right-hand side of the extension’s south-west face. The rear of the building also features the extension and a small modern fixed light window on the first floor of the original structure. The exterior is finished in painted roughcast, with a slated gabled roof, a small rendered chimney stack to the gable end, and cast iron gutters and downspouts. The entrance to the shop is on the south-west gable, consisting of a partly glazed door with a plain painted stone surround and a shop sign board above.

Historical records, including valuation and ordnance survey documents from 1834 to 1930, document the building's construction and subsequent evolution. The architectural interest lies in its style, proportions, and group value within the terrace. Local interest is also noted.
