Description
This is a single-storey house, likely originating in the early nineteenth century, that has undergone significant extensions and substantial alterations in recent years, effectively rendering it a modern dwelling. It is situated on a slight slope to the east side of Ballybuttle Road. The southeast-facing side of the house retains the original wall, now displaying five small windows with modern timber frames. The house has been extensively extended along its entire northwest length; this extension has resulted in a reduced wall thickness on that side and the raising of the roof pitch, broadening both gables. The northwest facade now has four small windows with matching frames. A recessed, open porch area is located on the far left of the northwest facade, featuring a timber-sheeted door with a small glazed panel. A small, gabled projection is set into the right side of the southwest gable, with blank walls. Adjacent to the projection on the main gable is a timber-sheeted door with a small glazed panel. A small window is located on the northeast gable, similarly positioned to the earlier windows. The entire facade is finished with a rough render intended to imitate stonework. The roof is pitched and covered with concrete tiles, featuring a slight overhang at the verges and eaves. A rendered chimney stack is situated on the main roof, offset from the ridge, likely due to the raised roof pitch. A similar chimney stack is present on the gabled projection, similarly positioned. The building incorporates PVC rainwater goods.
A smaller building is depicted on Ordnance Survey maps of 1833/4 and 1858-60, likely corresponding to the original house prior to the recent changes, which were carried out around 1992. Interior work appears to be ongoing. Historical records, including Valuation Office records from the 1830s and Ordnance Survey maps from 1833/4, 1858-60 and Griffiths’ Valuation from 1863, held at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI), document the site’s history.
