The site represents the former location of a single-story cottage, likely dating from the mid-19th century (1840-1859). It was demolished around 1980 and a modern house now occupies the same footprint. The cottage was situated off a short lane on the eastern side of Abbey Road, within the small hamlet of Ballyfrenis. The original building was described as having a corrugated asbestos roof, gable ends, rendered chimneys, and rendered white walls. It had three double-hung windows without astragals, and a projecting porch between the first and second windows. A shed roofed door led to a porch. Sheds were located at both the left and right hand gable ends, each with sheeted doors, with the right-hand shed being set back. An Ordnance Survey map from 1858-60 depicts a building on this site, likely corresponding to the one subsequently demolished. Historical records, including 'Griffith's' valuation for 1863, document the cottage’s existence.
