Presbyterian Manse, 30 Main Street, Ballymacruise, Millisle, Newtownards, Co. Down, BT22 2HR

The site formerly contained a two-storey manse house built between 1859 and 1860, and demolished around 1982. Modern sheltered dwellings now occupy the location. The original manse was described as having a slated roof with plain barges on brackets, yellow brick chimneys, rendered and lined walls painted with corbelled eaves, vermiculated quoins, and a level base. The east front featured three first-floor and two ground-floor double-hung sash windows with horizontal astragals, moulded architraves, and decorated keystones. A central doorway was originally topped with a segmental arch, moulded architrave, four-pane fanlight, two-pane sidelight, and a glazed and panelled door; this doorway was later enclosed by a projecting porch with a shed roof and glazed walls, including a flush panel door on the right-hand side. The manse was constructed on land leased from Andrew Mulholland of Springvale. Historical records indicate the Mulholland family likely held leases related to the property, potentially within the Dunleath Papers at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI). Published historical accounts dating from 1934 and around 1983 detail the manse’s existence and appearance.
