Description
This is a large, formal two-storey house built in 1906, situated on the western side of Ballywalter Road, at the southern edge of Millisle. The front, eastern facade features a central timber-panelled door topped with a segmental arch and fanlight. The doorway is accentuated with fluted pilasters, an arched entablature, and an arched cornice. Flanking the door are twin segmental arch-headed windows with moulded surrounds, keystones, and sash frames. A corresponding pair of windows are located on the first floor, with a single, similarly styled window centred above. The south gable has a window positioned centrally on the ground floor and one to the left on the first floor, matching the front facade. The north gable mirrors this arrangement, with the first-floor window located to the left. The rear elevation has two sash windows without surrounds on both the ground and first floors. A two-storey gabled return is situated in the middle of the rear, with three sash windows to the south-facing facade of the return and two further windows, plus a glazed door, to the north. A small, single-storey shed is attached to the right side of the return gable. The entire facade is finished with a ‘salt and pepper’ render, smooth render cill bands, chamfered quoins and a plinth. There is an eaves course. The roofs are pitched and covered with Bangor blue slates, featuring two rendered and corbelled chimney stacks on the main roof. ‘Saw tooth’ clay ridge tiles are present on the main roof, with overhangs at the main gables and plain barges. The rainwater goods are a mix of cast iron and PVC. According to the current owner, who possesses extensive knowledge of former residents, the house was constructed in 1906 on land then belonging to Lord Dunleath; relevant documents may be found in the Dunleath Papers (PRONI D.1167).
