Description

The site at 43 Main Street, Ballymacruise, Millisle, previously contained a single-story terraced house, likely dating to the early 19th century, which was demolished around 1992. Modern single-story shops now occupy the ground. The original house had a slated roof, rendered and lined walls painted white, with painted block quoins and base. It featured three double-hung windows with Georgian panes and a doorway between the second and third windows, with a sheeted door and a plain fanlight.

This building appears on Ordnance Survey maps from 1833/4 and 1858-60. It may have been one of the 67 single-story dwellings noted in the Ordnance Survey Memoirs of around 1834. The Mulholland family acquired land in the Millisle area in the 1840s; leases related to this property may be found within the Dunleath Papers at PRONI (D.1167). Photographs of Main Street, Millisle taken around 1920 and in the early 20th century offer visual records of the area.
