28-30 Main Street, Kircubbin, Newtownards, Co. Down, BT22 2SP

This is a two-storey, terraced house and shop, likely built between 1820 and 1839, located at the northern end of Main Street in the village of Kircubbin, County Down. The building is comprised of numbers 28 and 30 Main Street.

The front, facing southwest, has a modern shop front at number 28, featuring a glazed door and a fixed shop window to the right. A large, internally illuminated PVC sign is positioned above the shop front, with a smaller projecting sign above the first-floor window to the left. Number 30 has a modern two-pane timber window to the left, a timber panelled front door with a plain, narrow fanlight, and a segmental arch-headed coach opening with double doors to the right. The first floor, belonging solely to number 30, has four windows mirroring those on the ground floor. The entire facade is finished with a limestone chip render, accented by crude, homemade window boxes below the window sills. The roof is pitched and covered in asbestos-free slates, with three lined, rendered chimney stacks. Cast iron gutters and downspouts are also present. A large, flat-roofed return extension is located at the rear of number 30, while a long, single-storey 'lean-to' extension with modern windows extends from the rear of number 28.

The terrace likely dates to the early 19th century, as buildings are depicted on the Ordnance Survey map of 1834. Photographic evidence indicates that number 28 operated as a shop since around 1910, with the window and door openings matching their current configuration. The flat-roofed return extension on number 30 was added in the 1940s. Historical records, including directories and Ordnance Survey maps, suggest the area was established around 1824 and valued in 1835 and 1863.
