30A-32 Main Street, Kircubbin, Newtownards, Co. Down, BT22 2SP

This is a two-storey, terraced house and shop, likely of early nineteenth-century origin, situated on the northern end of Main Street in the village of Kircubbin, County Down. The building has been altered with modern features, including window frames, a shop front, and a pebbledash render.

The front, or southwest-facing, facade presents a modern timber four-pane window and a timber-panelled door to the left (belonging to number 30A). Number 32 features a modern fixed-light shop window with an adjoining door to the right, marked by a PVC, internally illuminated, shop sign and an awning above. To the right of the shop front is a flat-arched coachway containing a large, modern metal garage door. The first floor, which is entirely part of number 30A, has four windows mirroring the style of the ground floor of number 30A. The front facade is finished with a limestone chip render, with a chamfered plinth. The rear elevation includes a gabled return and flat-roofed extensions, all with modern windows. The roof is pitched and covered with Bangor blue slates, with a lined, rendered chimney stack on number 30 and a brick stack shared with number 34. Cast iron gutters and downspouts are present.

A building is indicated on an Ordnance Survey map from 1834, suggesting the possibility of an earlier date for this house and shop, though firm evidence is lacking. A photograph from around 1910 shows that while the doors and windows are now modern, the window and door openings themselves remain unchanged. According to the owner in 1997, number 32 has operated as a shop for over a century. The property was likely constructed between 1820 and 1839.
